Are paphiopedilums forced to bloom?

rjlinvaOctober 30, 2010

I am trying to increase my orchid collection so that I have a variety of orchids blooming throughout the year. I have recently gotten interested in paphiopedilums, and I would like to have some blooming at different times of the year. If I buy them in bloom at different times of the year can I anticipate them blooming around that time each year, or are they forced to bloom out of season like the phalaenopsis I see at the big box stores? I can't always find information about their bloom time. When I order them online, I try to get some that bloom at different times of the year.

TIA

Robert

Big Box orchids are forced. If you buy one it will start to adjust to your light/temperature situation and go back its proper season.
