What other gallicas or closely allied roses can you think of that can spread out like Charles de Mills or the Agathe roses enough to be spread against a 6 ft. fence?
Reverse the question, and I'll think about it. In my conditions, the default is definitely aggressive spreading.
Yes, I phrased it poorly. My Gallicas sucker wildly but not many have the cane length to work on a fence.
Maybe Jenny Duval. She gets 5 to 6 feet here, no problem, and of course suckers quite happily. Mine came from Heirloom more than 15 years ago. Pickering has her in stock now.
I call this tendency "wanderlust".
Quite a few would fit the bill. Duchess de Montebello is a good choice, gets 5-6' tall and suckers. Jenny Duval already mentioned is a good one too.
