Granny Smith Planting Site

nvrnugh(7b-8a Chesapeake, VA)December 27, 2013

I just got and yeap planted "Smitty" today. The person at the nursery told me to put it in front of my house verses the side yard. I get east to west sun which means the side yard would have been in the FULL sun all day long. Which of course I'm reading is exactly what's supposed to happen. She specifically told me to put it in front because of how hot it gets. Now the Sun will come up behind my house and hit the front yard of course but I'm worried.

Now reading the full sun should I replant? I get that has it's dangers in itself but again worried. Is she correct and my VA Zone 8 full blast sun newly planted tree will enjoy some morning reprieve come summer?

Clearly it's my first attempt so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just make sure that it gets plenty of water during its first year.

And you need to make some pruning decisions depending on the style of tree growth you want. (Central leader, open center etc)

Thanks Mike. I will water and hope for the best. Considering its already open and from what I've read going with the open center.
