Burning bush alternative?

mrjona2March 11, 2007

As I just discovered that E. alatus has become an invasive spp. in our area, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a bush with similar characteristics. I am looking for a shrub that can handle shade, has nice branching that could act as a screen if planted in double or triple rows, and that deer do not prefer. Any suggestions?

I have many Japanese Quince that spread well. They flower nicely but are green most of the time. They are a good screen with large openings underneath. I think deer may like them though.

Here is a link that might be useful: My blog with pics of the Quince. I thought it was a burning bush before I posted here.
