Help! Fruit Rats eating my tomatoes
I have come to the conclusion that it is fruit rats that are taking bites out of my tomatoes, even green ones. I put up a metal fencing and that didn't stop the problem, then, yesterday, I encased my tomatoes in bird netting, and it struck last night. My tomatoes are in 15 gallon black plastic pots, perched on top of a retaining wall and backing to a wooden 6' fence. I think maybe the rats are coming right down the fence.
What can I do to seal these nasty critters out? I'll be durned if they are going to enjoy all my hard work and delicious harvest.
Any ideas? I have a cat so I can't poison them.
