Thinking of adding a greenhouse

eferraroMarch 7, 2010

For quite a while I have been thinking of adding a greenhouse on my South facing backyard. With the HF greenhouse at 199 it makes it a no brainer. I currently grow Vegetables in three raised 4X8 raised beds in the rear of my yard. I live in Sothern California which has mild winters and can get over 100 degress during the summer. The area I am looking to place my greenhouse does not get sun during the winter due to trees growing on a hillside behind where the greenhouse would be. but will get full sun during the summer. this area is in the same vicinity as my raised beds which I have never had problems growing tomatoes or any other full sun crop. I am looking at using this greenhouse to harbor tropical plants in the winter months as well as using it for early vegie seed and bulb starting. I guess my question is, based on the location of where I plan to place my greenhouse and the fact it is in full shade during the winter would this be money worth spending.

I know of a friend who has some problems with HF greenhouses panels. I think it has something to do with the panels deteriorating as HF panels cannot seem to withstand the heat during summer.

Anyway, you can read a thread of similar concerns over here:

That's why I opted to build my own greenhouse instead.
