Altissimo in zone 5

lindawisconsin(4)May 13, 2011

I've been reading posts and I think Altissimo would be a great addition to my driveway garden.

I've looked on Helpmefindroses, and they list zones as 6-9.

Now I grow quite a few roses that are listed as zone 6 and above on helpmefind, so I'm wondering if Altissimo would be happy here.

hi linda, I am in Ohio, used to be zone 5 but they are saying we're zone 6 now. Altissimo is a tough rose I have moved it 3 times and it is hanging in there and starting to take hold. It dies to the ground in a bad winter so you may need to winter protect if you live in a harsh area. But it seems to bounce back well each spring.

It's more like a tall, upright HT here between Lakes Huron and Erie, with die-back in winter, growing to about 6 or 7', with lovely, red single blooms and stiff canes. A keeper. No scent though.

Thanks Roseberri and elks!
It sounds like it is worth a try. Does this one rebloom?

I don't have it myself but several people in my local area rose societies do and they say it grows and winters like a champ for them. It won Best of Show a couple of years ago with a huge (7") magnificent bloom!
