Our Spring Round Robin has gone so well that we have decided to have another one. Please sign up quickly if you are interested; we want to beat the hot weather.
If there's a mini box going around, count me in. I missed out on a mini box earlier, and I'm going through withdrawal!
This post was edited by debbya on Sat, May 24, 14 at 2:54
I am in!
I will be in, too! Weather is ok around here - not too hot yet at all!
How does the round robin work?
Ok so far we have...
There is no 'just mini' box. Sorry.. Usually we do a mix of every size. That way Everyone finds something. Also, sometimes mini's don't do that well traveling. And sometimes they do- so it's really up to the person who has the box as to what they add.
Named only Av's, leaves, plantlets whatever the person has extra comes in a box. You replace whatever you take, mail it out ASAP by priority two day. Post a confirmation # on the thread and share with us what you take (to keep up the box excitement!) It's fun hearing about what's in the package!
Ok great - count me in!
I would like to join in but would have to receive the box by June 17th at the latest as we are leaving on a series of trips and my return time is iffy. If you can work around this then I'm in; otherwise I will wait for a future round.
I am going to convention this week-end in Nashville-(woo-hoo!!!) but I can start things on their way next week if Deb doesn't want to.
Thanks for offering to start the round robin. ;) Include me in the RR too!
Have fun at convention!
Anyone who wants to participate in the next RR, send me your address. I will then be able to start planning as soon as I get home from Nashville.
I couldn't send the my address, as it seems your send email link is not activated on your page account. Let me know if there's any other way I can send my address,
yes, please count me in!
If there's a mini box, I'm still interested. I also couldn't find a way to email you, Linda.
Everyone-try to e-mail again. I changed my settings.
Sent you an email
I wish I went to convention. I've been seeing all the pictures on facebook, and watching Annie's podcasts/"All about African violets" (on the road to convention- 3 parts). I wanted to go on the optimara tour too!
Oh well, maybe next year... At least I was able to go when it was in Chicago.
I hope you found tons of stuff Linda! :)
And I hope Everyone that wants to participate in this quick RR-- sends addresses ASAP! We need to do this quick. So no violets are in the mail in July's heat.
KC-if you want to participate, send me your address.
Anyone else-I need your address by tomorrow evening.
I would like to start this Monday if everyone is good with that. We don't have a lot of people but I think we are trying to beat the heat. Is everyone good with Monday?
And, yes, I did find tons of stuff at convention. And tons. And
tons. And the picture does not include the 25 leaves I just put down.
I know...it's a sickness...
Here's the list so far and in this order:
I am starting this tomorrow. I have everyone in a different order from last time. We need to be prompt in sending these out-Terri needs hers by the 17th and we have a box going to Florida!
Great! Looking forward to another round!
Terri needs her box by the 17th and CJ really would like to have minis if everyone could include some for her.
Unfortunately, I missed the last round robin, and I have been looking out for the next one. I'm so glad I decided to check for a round robin today! I hope I'm not too late!!! Is there any way I can also join? I sent you an email, Linda, please let me know! :)
I've added Maya in-between Terri and Brunilda. The line-up now looks like this:
I sent you an e-mail with Maya's address. Please let me know that you got it.
Cj and Maya would like minis so I said I would get the word out although we can't guarantee what they will get. (That's the fun part!!!)
Email received. I'm looking forward to receiving the box!
Great!, looking forward to the box!!
Thank you so much, Linda!
I can't wait to get the box!!!!
The box arrived late afternoon. Everything is in perfect shape! I'll make my choices tomorrow, repack it. And post when it goes back out. Very nice selections, Thanks Linda! ;)
Ok, here's the list of what I'm keeping- Linda included 27 packages (with 1 leaf) in each.
Wow- what a neat selection! Many of these are standards (my favorite) and were varieties I had and lost. So my fingers are crossed that each leaf makes it!
Okie Easter bunny
Opera's Il Staniero
Jolly blue clouds
Ma's Easter parade
Ness Fantasy gold
Ma's arctic sky
Kentucky goose berries
Ma's midnight spell
Harmony's frilly dilly
I packed the box with fresh varieties. ;)
It's ready to go back out in the morning. I tried to put something in there for everyone! Mixed- semis, standards, minis, plus..? Lol!
This was so much fun, Thanks Linda! I'll post the dc# when I return home from the post office.
I'm glad you liked your leaves! On to Terrilou. :)
Have my fingers crossed, with the change in line up I'm a little concerned with getting the AV surprise box before my vacation on the 18th. I don't want the box to sit so we may need to flip my position if It cant get to me by the 16th so I can mail out on the 17th.
Delivery conf# 9114901075742767037743
Terrilou and Maya,
Do you both think that getting the Box to Brunilda by the 18th is possible? I have everyone in a loose geographical order so the box isn't in transit for long periods so I would have to rearrange it if not.
I should receive the box tomorrow. I am hoping to get it back in the mail tomorrow also, but that may not be possible as Monday delivery is usually late in the afternoon. If I mail it Tuesday latest, I estimate Maya will not receive the box until Friday the 13th. Brunilda, I think you mentioned that you need the box by the 16th? We don't know all the factors yet, but this could make it tight.
I hope there is no mistake.. A list was in the box- and I followed it. Going to the next person on the list -as we usually do. The box is going to SD ***. It was scheduled to arrive 6/9! I hope I wasn't suppose to bounce names or rearrange names on the list? If I was suppose to rearrange the list, I feel soooo bad that I didn't realize it!
Ahhh! I've been coordinating swaps forever and don't know everyone's names/addresses yet! I just go by lists!
This post was edited by debbya on Mon, Jun 9, 14 at 20:36
You were correct in sending to SD.
Send me an e-mail and let me know when you need the box. I'll see if I can rearrange if need be.
If I need to change the order, I will let everyone know. Until then, follow the enclosed list.
If I get the box on Friday, like Terri said, I can ship it out on Saturday and hopefully it will get to Brunilda on the following Monday (the 16th) or Tuesday, depending on how far she lives from me.
Oh good, I'm glad I sent it to the right address. I noticed Terrilou's GW name had Indiana in it. I'm always in a rush, then thinking about it later!
I don't know how I got moved up from half a dozen down in the queue to next, but the box arrived here today. Judging by Linda's comment about the box moving onto Terrilou after Deb, I hadn't given a thought to it coming here. I am not ready and have nothing prepared, but I'll get it sent back out as quickly as possible.
Terrilou, *now* it's coming to you next.
I'm confused- too.. I thought it was going to Terrilou? That's why I questioned the SD - as to Indiana! I get it now.. Lol!
I took Ballet Blue Ice and Jolly Blue Clouds. We'll see if they make it!
Tracking number is 9405 9036 9930 0199 5486 49.
Both of those grow tiny, nice selections!
I tried to put everyone in a loose geographical connection so the box would not be too long in transit. Here is the order I have on the paper in the box:
Brunilda tells me that she is going on vacation so I will have to put her towards the end. I am thinking after Susan would work. But for now Terrilou and Maya are next. Then we'll see what date it is. E-mail me if you need further clarification.
I get confused between the names on the list and the names on the posts. So who is it heading to now? I just am looking to get an estimate on when to expect it.
The confusion of the names on the posts and the names on the list comes because people are using both their user names and their actual names.
I have to move Brunilda as she told me she is going on vacation.
Here is the new line-up.
I have sent Maya and Brunilda e-mails to tell them of the new order.
I believe the box is on its way to Terrilou.
Vikki you are after Maya.
This post was edited by whitelacey on Tue, Jun 10, 14 at 15:02
Linda, I haven't gotten an email from you.
I agree about the confusion with using Gardenweb ID's and not going with real names. I wasn't sure if CJ was Terri's name/husbands name- etc. and she moved. ;)
I'm glad I go by Deb!
Giant hug for you-- for hosting this!
I sent the e-mail at 2:57 today. I'll re-send. It just to let you know not to send to Brunilda but to Vikki.
The name thing is confusing. I have three names for one person in this RR and two names for most everyone else. I'm glad you go by Deb, too!
The box arrived today with most leaves looking good. Buckeye Seductress was rotted, (darn!) as well as one of the Streps, Kim; Streptocarpella 'Concord Blue' is iffy to survive. I chose these:
Cajun's Royal Knockout
Cajun's Queen Sugar- - - my first Cajun's
species confuse Mather
Strep Iced Pink Flamingo
Streptocarpella 'Blue Angel'
The box is now on its way to you Maya.
Delivery number is 9114901230803422501162
Thanks for hosting this Linda, It was enjoyable to be able to participate. Have fun everyone!
You'll love your Cajun's! They are gorgeous!
I wish it were possible to change my user name here. I've looked all over but son't see where it's possible. Instead it's my first initial and my last name, if that helps anyone figure out who I am.
Now that you explained your GW ID, it's easy to remember who you are. ;)
I'm not sure we can change them. Only because we used to have the trade/rate system. And if people constantly changed their ID's, we wouldn't be able to keep track on the rotten traders. LOL!
I know I haven't used the rate system in several years. I probably should check mine! LOL!!!
Let us know when you get the box! It should be soon! :)
Looks like Maya should have gotten it yesterday, So I'm next?
This post was edited by vivey on Sat, Jun 14, 14 at 21:52
I'm so sorry for posting late! I have had a couple of really packed days (This is actually my first chance to get on the computer since Thursday!!!)!
I got the box on Friday and shipped it out the same day. Lot's of great varieties! Vikki, you should get it Monday! The tracking number is 91149012308035719676 ---- Enjoy!!!! :D
My choices were
Rob's Loose Noodle
NOW GROW!!!!! Lol, I can't wait to see how these varieties turn out.
Thank you so much for letting me participate in this round robin!!! It was great fun, and I definitely hope to do this again :)
I would love to get in on this but I have none I bought with names but I do have a nice collection. If anyone would like to trade let me know. Most all mine are blooming now and I can get pictures of them. Also if anyone has any idea what mine might be. I too realize that might not be possible.
Post a new message here. Many people don't care about names and would be willing to trade with you. Pictures always help!
Please let me know when you get the box. I am still working around Brunilda's vacation dates.
Just a few thoughts for everyone: please make sure there are at least 25 varieties in the box when you ship it. Also, if any leaves look 'iffy', please remove them and replace so the next person does not get a box of mush!
I got the box, but it was a surprise. The notice that it was being sent just showed up in my email this morning. I was gone all of today, so all the leaves were soaking and I'll be able to get it back out tomorrow. Just to make sure, I'm suppose to send it on to Susan? I just want to make sure with the changes we've made.
Yes, send it to Susan. If I need to switch, I will have her send it to Minal. Minal can then send to Brunilda. It all depends on how quickly everything goes.
Make sure you let us know what you got!
Susan please make sure you let me know when you get the box. Thanks!
I'll post the tracking # tomorrow.
Can anyone tell me anything about Wrangler's Ruffled Warrier? I can't find anything about it. Is this the correct name?
It's Wranglers Ruffled Warrior. I probably threw in an "e" by mistake. I don't have the official description, but the flowers are a reddish violet, mostly semi. . . Variegated leaves.
Thanx. I was finding lots of info on Wrangler's Savage Warrior, but not Ruffled Warrior.
The box is heading off to Susan today. Tracking is 9405 5036 9930 0319 2791 27. I'll post the list of leaves I snarfed out of the box later :)
I took a lot of the leaves, some because they were starting to turn.
Tomorrow's Pink Ice
Wrangler's Ruffled Warrior
Mac's Scorching Sun
Tiny Tim (T=leaves were turning)
Optimara Little Azurite
Rob's Twinkle Pink (leaves were turning)
Rob's Humpty Doo
Starry Night Blue
Green Dragon (leaves were turning)
Primulia Dayas 'Hysako'
Susan, I hope you enjoy what I left and what added :)
Susan, Minal, and Brunilda,
Susan-send the box to Minal instead of Brunilda. Brunilda won't be home until the 23rd and it's cutting things a little close if you send to her as on the list. I'll send all of you an e-mail to make sure you know of the change. Let me know that you got it.
Thanks for taking the 'iffy' ones! Now Susan won't get a box of mush!
They wouldn't have made it to her. The leaves were already getting yucky. I soaked them overnight in sugar water and potted them up, but I really don't expect them to make it. BUT stranger things have happened.
Thanks, Vikki! The tracking says the box should arrive here tomorrow. I am looking forward to it.
Linda, I got your message and I'll send to Minal.
Again, thanks for replacing the 'iffy' ones. It's very disappointing to open a box and be met with a bunch of unusable leaves.
Let us know when you get them! And Minal is expecting the box from you so we are all set.
The box was here Friday when I got home. I have a really busy weekend, but I was able to get the box back out on Saturday morning. You should have it on Monday, Minal.
Tracking # 9114901230801647272010
There were lots of great choices in the box and everything looked great.
Wrangler's Dixie Celebration
Thanks, Linda, for another great Round Robin. And thanks to everyone who participated. If it wasn't for the weather, I would love to do these all year long. Will be looking forward to the Fall RR.
Enjoy your summer, everyone!
I agree-all year 'round would be great! It's fun to look forward to the different varieties, watching them grow and anticipating what they will look like when mature.
It's been fun for me dealing with everyone on this RR. All have been so nice and co-operative with our changes. It's been a pleasure.
Linda, I totally agree!
Got the box today, only one leaf was iffy, all others were in great condition. Loved the variety this time!!!
The ones I kept are:
Optimara Little Moonstone
Skagit Victory Trail
Rebels Splatter Kake
Skagit Cascade Trail
The Madam (trail)
I will send it out to Brunilda next tomorrow. The tracking # is: 9405509699937665077477
I am very happy with the way this RR has turned out. Talking to others who have done RR's in the past, there are sometimes a few people who do not follow the guidelines. They do not send forward the agreed number of leaves/plants or leave the 'iffy' ones in for the next in line. (Both very unfair to the next recipient). This has been a great group! We'll do this again come fall!
When should I be watching for the next one to be announced? I don't want to miss out on it!
Also, anytime anyone here would like to do an AV trade, just let me know. I'm always up for a fun trade!
I'm so sorry missed this RR! For some reason, notifications weren't being sent to my email and so it just slipped my mind...oh, well. Looks like everyone had a great time and got some wonderful varieties! Hoping to jump in next time around...still trying to track down Bob Serbin, which I see was in the box at some point! lol :)
How about I start collecting names in August with a thought to start in September, depending on how hot it is then. I'll put in on my calender so I don't forget. Sound good?
I happened upon your Facebook page today. Great photos!
I'm up for a trade. Let me know!
This post was edited by whitelacey on Thu, Jun 26, 14 at 0:16
Hmm, you know we could do another swap- a one to one swap. Boxes travel within 2 days, so things would be ok. Unless your temps are 100* then hold off shipping until temps are in the low 80's!
Should we start another thread or is everyone done trading and waiting for fall? Our temps in chicago are bouncing- it's 55* tonight and 74* tomorrow. Then low 80's arrive, with more rain!
Deb, I'm up for a one on one trade!. Temps are hotter here than by you, but if I know the box is coming, I just make sure I leave work early to get it as soon as it arrives. So far it's worked ok.
Box arrived arrived today most of these are not looking so good. Is there something in particular that I should do to the leave before I plant them to increase their survival rates?
I have taken:
hearts of aglow - will cut off all ths brown and cross my fingers
yellowstone - ok
cherokee Trail - one leave rotted other iffy
Play full spectrum - ok
Acas tornado - ok
Pink chablis - ok
Mas Easter parade -ok
Have about 10 semi\mini so I hope Vikki you grow them!
I plan to mail back out tomorrow!
I added Floozie, harmony's news flash, Picasso, Bob Serbin, Buckeye Scrumptious, O Rhaosodie Ingrid, & O My darling. I put in a new box as the the box looked crushed.
You should have Monday.
Sorry I just noticed I said it was going back to Vikki but actually its going home back to Linda.
You might try soaking the leaves in Superthrive. That does work for Hoya and other plants. Might work for Violet leaves as well.
I read that and it sounded stupid. I didn't mean to soak the whole leaf but the ends like some people root them when they root in water.
You can soak the leaves in warmish water with a little sugar added. You can also use a drop or two of Superthrive if you have it. Some people soak overnight but if they are mushy I would just do an hour or so.
If anyone would like me to organize a one-on-one (since I have all the names and addresses), I will. We could keep this up all summer for those who want to and I could just keep re-arranging the names so there are no repeats.
A thought-you could send me a list of your preferences-what you have and what you would like, and I could make up a list based on that. Nothing very specific, just minis, variegates, etc. as there were some who just wanted minis this time around.
Just a thought.
Let me know!
A simple tip.. Always hold the leaf up to the light, look at the veins, in back, they shouldn't have any noticeable color. if you see it water logged (brownish color) pronounced clear look- the leaf is rotted. You can't save it. It will rot! If it's only half, you can cut the clear/brown damaged part off, dust in cinnamon and *hope* that it makes it. Lots of times it does! it's easier to plump up a shriveled leaf than save a rotted. You can safely soak a leaf for 24 hours, I usually just give them a spray w/ warm water, keep it in the Baggie, sealed is ok or open a little is fine too. If it's going to make it- it plumps back up and looks good. I've been doing this lately- even keeping them for a week in the water 'spritzed' bag- and what looks good I plant. Rot shows up quickly! Doing this I save a ton of time planting. Or just add the blonde spag moss to the leaf bag that look crisp- good. And close pin the bag to my plant stand.
The leaves root really well in the moss, and love the bag because it's the perfect greenhouse moisture environment! Once you see babies you can leave the bag open or snip the end w/ scissors and start getting the plants 'used' to the air. Just spray (feel) the moss and keep it slightly damp. Not over soggy. Seeing what survives in a bag saves lots of time planting!
Sending to me?!? NOT A PROBLEM!!!!!! I would love to get the box again :)

I'll send to you if you send to me!
I would love to participate in a one-to-one trade! :D I prefer mini's as I don't have much room to grow at the moment. Please let me know if and when a pairing is arranged :)
Let me look through my notes and see who grows minis. Meanwhile, is there someone who would like to trade with Maya?
Sebding Maya a PM.
I tried to send Maya a PM but it looks like her email is blocked. Maya, please PM me.
Sent Vikki a PM
Here are a few that may be interested in one-on-one trades: Maya, Vikki, Vikki's friend Susan, (I have her e-mail if you would like to contact her I will send it to her. I don't want to print it without her okay), Deb and me.
Susan M. was part of the first spring RR. She's the one above who posted that she was sad she had missed this RR. She goes by kcgirl81 here on GW.
Our RR finished up yesterday on a successful note. I have potted up all my leaves and now it's a waiting game as you all know. I will post my new treasures tomorrow as I have had a busy day.
I do want to thank whomever included the Primula.(Who was it?) I have never grown one and am looking forward to it. It already has roots!
It was probably me! Was it Kazu? I have a few of them.. And love them, they are beautiful and bloom constantly. And root in a bag really easy!
Here is the wrap-up on our second RR.
Harmony's News Flash
My Darling 'O'
Ness' Fantasy Gold
Chirita 'Kazu' Thanks, Deb!
I also got five that were not viable. (My Chirita is not doing well, either:( )
I tried to figure out how long the leaves could be in transit before they started to go bad. It seems, by the handwriting on the bags, that the last three senders arrived safely and one or two of the others survived. So, without going through 100-plus postings, I am going to estimate that Susan, Minal and Brunilda's were the ones that arrived safely. Susan sent on June 19th and I got the last box on July 2nd. So that's about two weeks for future reference.
It's been lots of fun and everyone was great. I'm looking forward to another one (or two) in the fall.
I'm already looking forward the the fall RR - 2 of them, hopefully!!
I've been watching the posting of all the great leaves that have been shared. I didn't join the second Spring, because I thought it would be too hot for leaves to travel during the summer months. I guess I was wrong. It looked like everything went great.
Now I'm getting antsy for the Fall RR. Can't wait for that one to start.
