I have two AV's -- both look alike. Are they the same.? Not listed on FC2.
Russian Blue Eyes ---- and
EK Goluboglazaia Rossiia
Yes they are the same violet.
One name is in Russian, the other in English.
EK-Goluboglazaja Rossia translates as EK-(hyb. prefix) Blue Eyed Russia.
Do you know why the Russian varieties always have the hybridizer's initials at the front of the variety name? (I'm assuming that's what it is.) Is this a custom or is it similar to 'Wrangler's' or 'Cajun'? And are there any that do not do this?
no, it is kind of a new development and there are several modern Russian hybridizers who do it, but not all.
Also, the correct name is the Russian-EK-Goluboglazaja Rossia, not the English translation. Good to know if you decide to show or sell.
Yup = we need to maintain the precise names.
You are correct but it sure is difficult to get my American tongue around some of these names!!! (Although I am staring to learn a bit of Russian) :)
I said a "little" Russian, Irina!!!
