best place to get Java Moss?

Matthew Condon - Indiana.Matt - IN, Zone 5/6(Indiana Zone 5/6)February 7, 2014

I have never grown live plants in my aquarium before and would like to try out some Java Moss. Where is the best place to get Java Moss? Should I try to find it at a local pet shop or get it online? How much should I expect to pay for it?

Thanks,

Matthew

I only have one...just called them - they don't have it. Very surprising - I didn't ask if they could get it - should have. It's very much winter in Indiana at the moment - should I wait until spring to have it shipped?

Hi
Probably , Java moss is usually a tough plant but why risk it ??. you could go through some of the planted aquarium sites for ideas . you may decide to go with a full planted tank will give you some ideas on lighting, substrate
. while waiting for spring?? gary

Ya...I could really get into a fully planted aquarium. I was look at photo of some last night. I love the grass sacpes with trees and rocks. I would love to try it! I only have a 1 gallon aquarium at the moment I just want to try covering some small rocks with the moss and maybe get a few shrimp for now.

Aquabid is a great site for plants. It's basically an ebay that only has fish stuff.

Java moss shouldn't be that expensive, but keep in mind that shipping can get pricey.

Java Moss can be purchased at Aquabid.com for around $8 including shipping. You can also try various Anubias species which are a genus of plants from Africa that thrive in low light aquariums.
