Zone5b Alocasia Cuprea-Can it be done outside?

thecurious1(z5 Chicago)February 9, 2006

HI all-

I'm looking at a alocasia cuprea and am wondering if it can be done outside in Zone 5B. I would appreciate any observations or experiences on how to best approach this.

In the summer when its warm, yes. As soon as it gets below about 50F, I don't believe so. Best to keep in a container and keep mobile, even here in zone 8B. I grow mine in a "tropical" greenhouse, and even there its containerized.
