any small elephant ear varieties?

dawgie(z7NC)May 10, 2005

Does anyone know of any elephant varieties that are relatively small, growing to perhaps 2' tall? We have a fairly small pond (4'x6') that my wife would like to grow an EE in, but all the varieties I have seen are supposed to grow 4-6' or taller. We don't want something that would overtake the pond. Also like the black varieties, if there is a dwarf version.

I think PD also carries 'Ruffles', which is 36" at maturity. To me, that's small, but it may not be to you.

Wellspring100 sells a dwarf form of Black Magic on ebay that would work for you.

I don't believe that Fallax can be grown as an aquatic, I may be in error but it is one I have never seen grown that way. I grow it in my yard as a terrestrial, and I can tell you, in my zone at least, it can be quite invasive.

I also grow "Ruffles" and it doesn't stay that small, it can get to 4-5 ft tall and the leaves get very large.

A very nice dwarf plant you might try is Dwarf Jenningsii, it looks like a miniature Colocasia antiquorum Illustris (Imperial Taro) but it can be hard to locate and pricey
