EE 'uppie' stalk too long

hibiscuslover(z5 SE Mich)May 28, 2005

I have a small plant that was overwintered in a 6" pot. It grew spindly and the stalk is bare and about 10 inches long.

My questions are:

1.) Can I chop the stalk off at the soil level, and hope for new growth from the soil line?

2.) Can the stalk be cut up in small pieces and propagated?

3.) Can the growing tip be planted in it's own pot?

Has anyone ever done this or even tried?

To be sure I don't steer you wrong, I'd need to know what kind of EE you have there. Some EEs do produce a stalk of sorts if they do not get enough light, but if the stalk is the result of less than ideal growing conditions, you may be risking the plant by cutting it. If the stalk is actually the petiole of a leaf or leaves, that is another story, but in any event, you need to tell what kind of EE you have (or provide a picture).
