Amorphophallus paeoniifolius, after the fllower questions.

minibim(FL z10)June 10, 2005

Can't seem to find much info googling and I accidently acquired this plant and know nothing about them. Yes accidently, as hard as this is to believe, it "volunteered" in my yard a few years ago.

Anyway, it bloomed for the first time this year and I decided to try and doubly make sure it got pollinated, so I hand pollinated it also. This was a couple of weeks ago and the flower is just slowing dying into the ground and I have no plant stem starting or anything.

If I successfully pollinated it, what can I expect or look for? Is it normal to take such a delay in starting to grow, now that it's done?

Thanks for your help.

Hi, These do not self-pollinate. Only a few Amorph species do, including bulbifer and kiusianus. After the flower dies down it will be a few weeks before the new plant grows. You should be getting new plants around momma though as this reproduces vegetatively via underground offsets. Have fun with this guy :o) Dan
