What is this thing growing off of my A. Bulbifer?

JotaRo(7)July 6, 2013

Hi everyone,

I am excited that this is my first post. About a month ago, I received an Amorphophallus Bulbifer at a DC Plant Swap. Now it is growing this nubbin-looking thing off to the side of it. Any idea what it is? Thanks!

the oldest petiole will eventually shrivel. and the new one will be larger..and this will help nourish the corm in potting mix.. yea!!!
