A corpse flower (Amorphophallus titanumin) at the United States Botanic Garden Conservatory in Washington, D.C. is expected to bloom sometime this week. This is a top story at CNN, LOL! The Conservatory is open for extended hours today and tomorrow!

The Conservatory is posting daily progress photos on their home page:
http://www.usbg.gov/

And you can watch it open on live stream!

Although titanums are becoming a bit more available, seeing them actually flower is still pretty rare. It's not unusual for botanic gardens to put them on display and set up internet video links. This helps raise the public profile of the gardens and probably makes it easier for them to attract funding.

Aroid leaves>aroid flowers in my book, with few exceptions!

I'm sure a Titan in bloom is truly a sight to behold, but amorph leaves and petioles... So much more interesting to me

im finding more and more a deeper appreciation and
enjoyment of growing these wonderful plants ...
from every stage of there life cycle.. whether a "tropical"
amorph..or just the easy to grow konjac..
the various colours, and patterns of the petioles, speed of
growth of the petiole after comming out of dormancy, unravelling of the leaves, the surprise of a successful growing season at seeing how much size a corm put on,the flowering..
these plants are amazing !!!!

I didn't notice any reference to the size/weight of the tuber, nor the size of the container it's growing in. I've read previously that the smallest known flowering tuber was 9 kg. Even that's a pretty big 'potato'.
