World renowned Rhododendron garden for sale

Slightly esoteric item, but I think this will come as a shock to some.

The Leonardslee Gardens are for sale. 225 acres of lakes and woodlands. There are only 163 Grade I listed gardens in England and Wales (of greatest historical significance) and this is one of them. This is where the famous 'Loder' series of Rhododendrons was bred. Hopefully they will not fall victim to chainsaws.

thankyou to the folks who answered my question about my Hydrangea tree, especially DITAS, I hope I will get some blossoms this year!!
Does anyone know much about Rhododendrums?
My daughter gave me a gorgeous red fully grown one for Mother's Day.
It was only in bloom for a week or so then all leaves fell of the flowers, it still is full of lovely green leaves tho! does it only bloom once a season?

Yes, they bloom for about 10 to 28 days each spring. Scintillation and Boule de Neige bloom for almost 4 weeks here.

In some areas there is something called petal blight that cuts the bloom short later in the blooming season. It is worst among azaleas which are also rhododendrons. It is also worst in warm moist climates.

I hope it was the blossoms that fell off and not the leaves.

Meanwhile back at the topic, the original 'Loderi' clones must be huge by now. Too bad the whole collection is now to be placed in danger of destruction. One party has expressed interest in buying it for preservation at the site linked to, however I saw know indication of the asked for partner making an appearance.

While on the one hand such places are private gardens made to appeal to the personal tastes and visions of people long gone, when it is people of the means to create something so grand then the fruits of their efforts take on significance beyond them. It's not really completely acceptable for the whole thing to be lost because the family isn't able to keep it going - we're not talking about someones little backyard rose garden.
