I need help with an I.D.

bossjim1September 14, 2013

Can anyone help me id this EE? I traded for it at a plant swap about 3 years ago. The lady I got it from knew nothing about it and it was just labeled E.E. It was about 15 in. tall, had variegated petioles and very slight variegation on the extreme outer margins of the leaves. In the spring of 2012 I planted in the ground and this year it has really grown. It's now nearly 5 feet tall and has developed a lot more variegation on the leaves. I think it's a Xanthosoma, but not sure.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

definitely a xanth of some sort. Obviously a variegated specimen as well tracking it down from there shouldn't be too difficult.

Meanwhile congrats on growing it to look so awesome! I've been after any ole xanth for a while and seeing eyecandy like that makes me drool. lol

Good luck on your search! :)

They seem to have many names. I have seen these called:

Xanthosoma albo marginata
Xanthosoma albomarginata
Atrovirnes albo-marginana
Xanthosoma sagittifolium
Xanthosoma atrovirens 'Variegatum Monstrosum'
Variegated Alocasia gageana âÂÂCaliforniaâÂÂ

and for common names:

Mickey Mouse Taro
Mouse Cup
Pocket Plant
Yautia Amarilla
Arrowleaf Elephant Ear
New Cocoyam
Chou Caribe
