What is this rhododendron?

rhodyman(SE PA, USDA Z6)June 3, 2006

Roger Pellegrini sent me this photo and asked me to identify his rhododendron. That is not my expertise, so I am posting the photo for Roger.

He is growing this plant in Sparkill, NY, and the older parent plant is 12 foot tall.

Any ideas?

The link below if for Richard Bosley which is similar, but not very close.

Rhodyman, As soon as I saw your photo, I thought the flowers looked 'Picotee', so I searched for Rhododendron Picotee, and found this:

It's possible?

Hmm, considering that the parent plant is 12' tall, that would probably rule out the plant being a yaku rhodo, right rhodyman? The flowers sure look similar, though. :)

The yellow flare and the tall habit are key characteristics. A larger picotee is Consoline's Windmill.
