Can anyone tell me what kind of plant this is? It is planted in the garden of the local art museum, I love it but have no idea what it is. Its pretty tall too, this one was standing about three feet.
Is this an outside display? In what state?
New Zealand Flax--- Is my guess.
Yes its an outside display, its sitting up in a raised garden in front of a fountain. Its in California.
hmm...New Zealand flax? Yea that looks like it could be it, I'll have to do a little bit of research.
You may want to ask on name-that-plant forum, here on GW. Were you able to touch the leaves? The pic makes it look like a fan-shaped, 'flat' plant. Is that how it was in person? CA plants are largely a mystery to me, it looks like some kind of Iris. Don't think any are that big though.
It does remind me of an iris and seems to have the same type of texture, but I have never seen an iris that large before. It is fan-shaped, didn't seem to be spreading anywhere else.
definately a flax, phormium tenax
Def a Phormium tenx
