grants for hort. therapy

froghollowJanuary 24, 2003

Does anyone one where the organization for which I work might be able to find grants for horticultural therapy?

I know the Chicago Botanical Garden and the NY Botanic Gardens often support hort. therapy and/or accessible gardening, but not in NJ.

I hope this will help you. Where do you work? What county are you in?

Forget that link. Wheel chairs are not even able to get up the steps to her public gardens. Well, maybe not yet. I've spent some of her money. I'd like to think on plants. My x removed the tanks from the property in NJ. They must of been to heat the greenhouses.

hello
I am currently seeking a grant to complete my phd in horticultural therapy. I too live in NJ. If anyone is aware of educational grants please post.

I know that there's a grant in progress where I work for a Hort. Therapist to be hired. I know someone will be hired who is educated where I've been stretching to fill in. I'm not sure this will help but I'll post the link anyway. Good Luck

I finally got back to this page after many moons. Thanks for all your input.

Most interestingly, most internet searches come up with sites in the UK, Ireland or Canada or for grants to hire a hort. therapist - not what we need. We are looking to expand an already existing program.

Searching The Foundation Center hasn't brought me much of anything either.

All that said, we have applied for and, I think received, a WHIP grant to do a sensory garden.

Another place to check for grant money would be retail stores like WalMart/Sam's Club, Target, etc. I just picked up a grant application from Target for my garden club, but it was only for $500. This might not be enough for you. Maybe this could be added to the grant you are getting? The $500 can go a long way in purchasing plants. I have also seen at my local Sam's Club how they help civic groups by donating money for their projects - some are over $1,000. Look around at the stores (especially the national retail chains) you have in your area to see what they can offer.
