Amaryllis fertilizer

royboy210February 19, 2009

We have just purchased a new place that has several amaryllis growing in the ground. When do they need fertilizing and what type and amount of fertilizer should be used?

Most healthy, established perennials don't benefit that much from fertilizing. Over the years I've learned that the best "fertilizer" is a good application of compost or leaf mold in spring and again in fall. The money you save can be used to purchase more amaryllis ;-)
