Does anyone have experience gardening in prarie soil dirt?

There's a lot of info about prairie soil in Alabama at these sites.

Yes, I have prairie soil. It is grey, sometimes with white or yellow marbeling. It is very alkaline at pH8, but you can still grow lots of stuff in it with amendments. I see it as a challenge.
