Maypop / Passiflora incarnata seeds?

alabamanicole(7b)April 18, 2013

Does anyone have seeds or root cuttings of Passiflora incarnata?

I had a whole field full, but apparently I managed to kill them all mowing. I assumed they'd be fine for a couple of years until I could transplant a few. Oops.

Now I want them for my fence but I haven't been able to find them for sale locally. I can buy seeds online but I'd prefer plants if I can get them.

I have them. I haven't seen them coming up yet, but I haven't looked. Will check tomorrow. How many were you wanting?.
How close to Birmingham do you live?

4 plants would be perfect. I'm nowhere near B'Ham, but I'm not adverse to a road trip.

They pop up in May, thus the name!

I usually have quite a few come up. I will let you know when they are big enough. I sure was slow about the name. Hadn't put name with May. I think I knew long time ago, but just had forgotten. Tony

The story I always heard was that when you step on them they "may pop".

Pay your money and take your choice of explanation!

I always have problems getting the seeds to germinate - I suspect they are meant to pass through the digestive tract of a possum or raccoon first. But I get reasonable germination by letting the fruit set undisturbed through the winter, then removing the seeds and planting them. But that means I can't eat the fruit. (sigh!)

I found plants at EarthTouch today, so I'm all set.
