Sowing seeds in the fall

madabouteu(8A - central Alabama)May 16, 2007

Last October I placed seeds in the refrigerator and found out how dramatically that improved germination! This time, I want to plant seeds in the garden and let them overwinter. When should I plant? I am in Gadsden. Any suggestions are welcome.

You know I never have as much luck with the fall sowing as later . . . and it is probably just zonal. What I sow in fall tends to come up with a warm spell around Christmas and then it turns cold and they are gone.

If I wait until after winter solstice, I have more luck. I usually sow my seeds about the time I take down the Christmas tree - a day after New Year.
