Best place to get Copra seeds?

tammyinwv(z6/WV)February 25, 2013

I have never tried growing bulbing onions before, but I have been reading about a lot of people growing Copra onions on here. I would really like to give them a try. But I have already ordered the seeds I planned on ordering, and I cant see paying $5 and up for shipping charges on a single pack of seeds. Can anyone recommend somewhere that might have cheaper shipping? I onlly have a small garden.

I purchased mine from Johnny's. The price was $4 for 1000 seeds and if I would have had them shipped alone the shipping would have been $4. They are very fast at getting orders out.

This is the only seed left I would like to get, and I hate to pay that much for a single pack (plus shipping).Plus I read the seed doesnt keep very well.

While it is not recommended, I actually held over some seed from last year and kept them dry (using antidesicant packs) and refrigerated. The germination rate was pretty good.

It always bothers me to pay $4.00 to ship a small packet of seed, but I guess they reason that somone has to pay the worker to pick and pack the seeds.

Are you near one of the big box stores (Home Depot or Lowes)? You might try them, but then again figure the cost of your gas to drive there.

Is the "Life's Simple Pleasures" web site yours? If so...

Last year I ordered Ailsa Craig Onion and Premium Crop Broccoli seeds from Pinetree. This year is rapidly becoming my "bean year", and I got some Fortex seeds (and cattle panels). I may have to start following in your footstep to learn what is good to grow! Let us know how the Emerite beans turn out. Woo Hoo! (but I say Hoo Haa! instead)
