Onions for scallions

plantinellen(5)February 17, 2009

We eat lots of scallions at our house, and I'm planning on growing some of our own. Any suggestions for annual varieties that do well up here in mid-Michigan? I'd also like to try a perennial variety. My aunt used to grow a very pungent perennial onion, but I found them too tough and strong to use in cooking except as a last resort. Any especially kitchen-friendly perennial bunching onions?

Look into evergreen bunching onions. It sounds like what you're looking for.
