Bill,
do you refer to allium ursinum?
If so, it´s according to http://plants.usda.gov not native to Texas. Bear Garlic is growing wild in my area, even occuring spontaneous in my garden. But its a weed in damp shaded places, and often people regret taking it into the garden. But OK, its delicious and easy to grow.
If you refer some other species I'm curios to learn wich.
