When to harvest sweet potatoes?

dannic_az(z8)October 8, 2005

I've had my sweet potatoes growing all summer and am greedily looking at the space they take up wondering when I get to harvest these guys and plant something else? My DH thinks after the first frost. I am hoping sooner...as I sit here in shorts and tee wondering if it will get below 90 like-ever. But I do love my sweet potatoes and will -sigh- leave them in til they are ready--just wondering when that will be.=) Thanks.
