OT: Weather too cold for little green friends

kaboehm (zone 9a, TX USA)February 12, 2011

No photos, but this morning I was taking the trash can to the street, and lying in the lid was a little anole. I can't call him "green" because he was a very dull brown. It was 24 degrees F out and little guy was so cold he could hardly move! I picked him up and he barely raised his head. I took him to my outdoors entryway, where there is a heat lamp warming lots of plants, and gently laid him on the soil of a big pot with an amaryllis bulb in it. When I checked a few minutes later, he was looking better, and when I went to "pet" him, he repositioned himself to get more light. Later, I saw him sitting on a leaf all green and perky!! I know he appreciated the help...and will repay me by eating lots of bugs!

:-)

Your little story made me feel good. Its little things like that that keep us gardeners thrilled with the whole experience. Gardens are about "Life".
