WANTED: Edible Gingers

georgew79(Z5-6 MO.)October 21, 2007

Hi all i was wondering if any one is growing any edible gingers other than the one that you see most of the time in the Markets and if so what type are you growing and in what foods do you add it to and would you be will to share a rhizome start of it. I know that in different parts of Asia there are severial types of gingers that are grown or collected in the wild and used locally from cooking to medicine I would like to learn more about these gingers and where they are grown and collected and how they are used. Thank you for any information you can give me I already grow a few Flowering Gingers and would love to learn more about the edible Gingers over the Flowering ones.

Sincerely

George W. Z5-6 MO.

Hi George,

Beside for cooking, I added some slices of fresh ginger on
my hot milk glass or boiled water with slices of ginger and Javanese sugar (palm sugar?). Yummy.

I planted some roots/tubers purchased from Asia market. I hope it will survive here in high-desert. Can't wait to enjoy hot milk with fresh ginger from my own garden.

Good luck.
