Okra pod softening at harvest

dps2101March 26, 2014

We are growing okra in soil in open field. We have a problem of the okra going soft soon after harvest and in some plots it is firm despite having common soil condition and fertilisation schedule.Kindly advise.

Water is the same or different in the fields. If the plant is water-stressed, the pods suffer.

Okra does not last long after harvest even under the best conditions. I found that picking it early in the morning gave the best results. And get the pods in to a cool area, but not refrigerator temps. Too cold is also bad.
