I'm sure it's 'grandeur' which is well out of production.

OKAY GUYS :)

I've been searching for you two and I've found it was previously listed on e-bay from a personal collection, I'm also assuming someone on this forum would love to do a trade that may have this plant. I'ma keep on searching.

Hello Mike,

In 2009, a dear friend (and former GW poster) obtained pups from Emaryllis of the beautiful bulb shown on their home page. The bulb had been named 'Okapi,' and Bill told my friend that it was a clone of Giraffe. The bulb in question is most definitely not Grandeur, which I have in my collection.

Cheers,

Blanca

Hello Blanca,

So.. you say this is a "clone" of Giraffe? Might this have been a change during the Tissue Culture process or would it have been a "sport".. and.. how could it be a clone and be so different? Okapi is certainly a gorgeous flower and every time I go to his site I mean to ask the question, but my mind won't hold the thought long enough to post the question?? Do you have any of these hehehe?

If I wasn't so fond of my teeth, I'd say I'd give my Eye Teeth for one of those....

Dear Hans-Werner,
Are you sure you aren't a detective, rather than such a skilled scientist? (actually, they ARE one in the same some days, aren't they?!)

Kristie i think science is very close to detective work, searching for very small signs, monitoring and so on...

So.. now I'm wondering how long Emaryllis has had Okapi. And, I'm wondering if this was a sport grown by him from one of his Giraffe bulbs or did someone give him an offset and he ended up with this jewel? Do you think he has made any attempts to propagate this as I'm sure everyone who visits his site admires it's beauty..Maybe we can dream and he's got one in Tissue Culture as we speak....
