I have question regarding planting japanese maple in Phoenix, AZ. Currently I am living in Northern California, I will be moving soon to Phoenix, AZ. I wonder if I could bring along some of my japanese maples ( coral bark and laceleaf )to plant over there. Any advices or suggestions are welcomed. Thanks

Hi there!
I'm from Northern California too, Menlo Park. I have seen one Japanese Maple here planted in a totally covered entry on the North side of the home. I don't know if it was in the ground for a day or 10 years but, shockingly enough, it looked healthy. I cannot imagine that considering the severe heat of the summer here anything less that a tighly controlled artificial climate would nurture a Japanese Maple. Also, I believe you should take a look at the restrictions on bringing plants from California to Arizona. Good Luck, Welcome to AZ, and to put it bluntly, learn to appreciate the weather you'll need to deal with and the natural, native vegetation. You'll save lots of time and money.
