Veggie Seedlings

I have several dozen veggie seedlings (summer squash, peppers, beans, eggplant, lettuce, etc) started in propagation trays I ordered from Gardeners Supply. The trays are on my east facing bay window shelf where they get morning sun. Most of the seeds have germinated but many of them, escially the lettuce, chard and beans, are very leggy and floppy. I'm pretty sure it's still too early to put them into the ground. Is there any way at this point to turn them around into more sturdy seedlings?

Put them in the ground. I grow lettuce all winter and have not had any freeze damage. The others should be fine unless we get a late freeze. I have tomatoes and peppers in the garden uncovered now.

The legginess is most likely due to insufficient light. If you can add some flourescent light 24/7 it will help. Even if you transplant them up from the trays to potting soil. Since your plants, especially the tomatoes and peppers, are just starting, they will not be hardened off enough to go in the ground just yet, imho. The lettuce may be ok, I've not grown that yet but do think folks direct seed throughout the winter months. Toms and peppers want the soil to be at least 45°.

Lettuce and chard can survive winter in Phoenix with no protection.

Beans are frost-tender, but plant them out anyway.
A cheap shop light hung over the seedlings (real close) or propped over them will help the rest of them.
