First new hybrid of the season

hippiezep(11)March 17, 2013

The first of the eagerly awaited 2010 hybrids to flower is this one: red-white x royal velvet. Red-white is the generic variety around here - hereâÂÂs a shot of our community garden last April when they were in full bloom:

Royal velvet is a very deep red variety. The offspring is pretty much as you might expect - clear darkish red with green bases to the petals.

Beautifully cultivated bulb, you've got 3 or 4 flowers and 2 scapes on the first blooming! Can't wait to see the rest as they come along, congratulations...Donna
