transplanting hens and chicks?

carolssis(9)March 27, 2012

My neighbor has a hens and chicks plant that is blooming. He has offered it to me, as the planter it's in is going to be removed. I want to dig it up but hesitate as it's bloomimg now. My question is, should I wait until the blooming has stopped or can I take it now? TIA

My suggestion - and you'll probably hate it - would be to clip off the blooms and give it at least a few days rest. Transplant with as much of the roots and dirt as you can handle directly into it's new home if at all possible, keeping in mind that it will have a hard season in front of it soon.

HTH!
