best time to dig bamboo zone 7

bobarian68February 28, 2014

I have recently come across some huge stands of what looks like P.Dulcis in Long Island,NY.We are in the midst of a brutal cold winterand to boot, we had plenty of freezing rain and heavy snow which has taken its toll. With that said, i might have a chance to actually dig some of this bamboo. What is the best time to do this (spring or fall),and was hoping for some helpful tips. The root balls are massive. As of now, i will be using a shovel. The stand is about 60 feet x 20 feet solid, over 20 feet tall.

Between now and spring -- before the bamboo starts putting energy into shooting -- is best. If you are going to try to do this with only a shovel you'll be out of luck. If you want some instructions on how to do divisions and what tools you need, go to My Page and email me.
