Banana Fungus

bananafanJanuary 22, 2007

I bought a banana plant from K-mart. I think it's a Cavendish. The stem was oozing some liquid that had a bad odor. I didn't think too much of it and took it home and planted it in the garden three weeks ago. When I read it was a kind of fungus, I'm kind of worried. What should I do with it. Should I destroy it and will it spready the fungus to the other banana plants (if it has not already done so)? Your advice is appreciated.

At an absolute minimum, remove all diseased and rotting tissue, anything that is brown and mushy. You must get down to clean, fresh, green plant material.
