Alphonse Karr - How Do I Prune? Looks Dead on Top

Howdy Y'all!

I have Alp. Karr Boo that I planted two years ago. It has more than doubled in size but I think the cold snap here around Dallas this past winter did Boo in. All the leaves fell off and now I have a bunch of tan sticks with a few new leaves sprouting here and there. The base of the plant still is green/yellow. What should I do? If I prune Boo, how do I do that? Is there a certain point that I should not cut beyond? Please help as I'm new to this gardening experience!

Leave the dead to protect the new until the new looks like it can stand on its own. Mulch, fertilize* and water to encourage recovery.

*If there is a basis for this, such as a soil analysis report
