Wind damage to 7' banana plant

denverpalmMay 31, 2010

Hello, I just recently brought my cold hardy banana out doors for the summer and we had strong winds which broke the upper leaves. How do I care for the plant? Do I cut the damaged leaves of the top of the plant? I do not want to loose the plant. I am going to plant in the ground for the summer. Please help thank you.

It's fine. When I was in Israel in 2007 all the banana plants in the banana plantations all had wind torn leaves - they have some wicked sandstorms there sometimes too(I never knew they grew bananas in Israel until I saw them with my own eyes) I'll try and get some pics posted tomorrow if you would like to see them.

I reduced the size so it would show up in the thread. You can see the full sized image by following the link below. This is the only one I had of the bananas on my laptop - I have more pics of bananas in the Jordan Valley on my desktop computer I'll post later. This pic was taken on the Mt. of Beatitudes (Golan Heights) looking towards the Sea of Galilee (you can make it out through the haze / humidity) and was taken august, 2007.

Bananas growing in the Jordan Valley, Israel in august 2007. Pic on the link is full size so you can zoom in and see the shredded leaves better.
