Musa Basjoo Deformity

This is the 2nd plant to grow like this. The first one I cut off the top of the plant and figured it would just keep on producing new leaves. But it didn't. Is this a sigh of the end for this plant? What could be causing this to happen?

It looks like it's about to flower.
