Banana pup infestation

rosebud161616(6)June 27, 2013

I recently got a banana pup in the mail and noticed today that there are tiny bugs on it. I have googled some of the common banana infestations but they don't seem to fit.

I'm not sure if you can see much from the picture. They are mottled brown in color. They are rounded in shape and have some kind of white fuzz on front of them. They all have the white fuzz, so I'm not sure if this is a body part, or if this is something they are carrying around.

When I get near the plant, the bugs stop. They slowly move to the side, almost in unison, until they are on the opposite side of the plant from where I am looking.

Can anyone ID what this is?

Flatid planthoppers. Don't know what if anything they do to bananas. Direct hits of insecticidal soap should take care of them.
