Hello folks, first time post.im a first year bamboo grower with a fargesia rufa in a 3 gallon nursery pot.very rootbound.my qurstion is,can i split this plant up like i do my clumping grasses, with a sawsall power tool(reciprocating saw)or do i try to tear it apart by hand to avoid damageing the roots. thanks!randy g.

Randy-
I doubt that you would be able to separate the rootball by hand, and you would likely do major damage trying. Use the SawzAll.

Yeah, when I purchased my pot bound B. ventricosa Kimmei I decided to split it before putting it in the ground. I used a hand tree saw and it went without a hitch. Several years later they are both thriving nicely along my backyard fence.
