Very very beautiful. I wish I could do that at my place. I have a potted pineapple plant too in my home. How do you over-winter the pineapple plant? Do you dig it up in the winter?
This is the only one I have planted in the ground and, if I want to keep it over the winter, it would have to be dug up. This one is kind of spindly. I have many more fuller ones in containers. Some were grown from tops of store-bought fruit, some were tissue cultured, and even some grown from seed.
Very cool. I grew mine from a pineapple top too. I need to repot it into a bigger pot though. It's grown two plants out of it, which is pretty cool. Anyway, thanks for the pic. It must be great to walk outside and see that view :-)
Did you guys put your pineapple top in water to grow roots ?
Eeek. I hope we don't get in trouble for straying too far off subject in the banana forum! I found all the instructions I needed on this website. It has great pictures too. Good luck!
Here is a link that might be useful: How to Grow a Pineapple
To grow a plant from a top, I twist the top off, peel off the lower small leaves, treat it with rooting hormone, and put it in a mix of half and half peat and perlite. Many times, especially with the "golden" variety, when you peel the lower leaves, you may find roots already formed. In that case, I just stick it in good potting mix.
great site thanks !
thanks john i appreciate it.
If you accidentally hit one with the lawnmower, it will put up pups. Oops!
