Rio Negro x Gervase 2010

hippiezep(11)May 8, 2013

Both parents are quite striking and I was hoping for an equally striking offspring, but out of several that flowered last month, most had a rather ordinary generic feel to them, a rather un-striking plain red.

One planted out in the community garden did have a few stripes to add interest:

A rather nice result, but not as exotic as I had hoped.

Your second one is quite pretty. Surprising isn't it..I would have bet money that you wouldn't have got a plain red.. even though it is nice...not a hint of Rio Negro!!

I would have definitely expected more of a cybister shape and at least some seedlings with color variance like Gervase. I would have expected more of a "wow factor" too! -Tina
