Banana tree pups

Susanne_IsabelleAugust 13, 2013

Can a banana tree send up pups if it hasn't fruited yet? Mine has three, what look like pups, emerging around it, but it hasn't fruited yet so I'm confused. Should I leave them or remove them so that the mother plant can continue to grow unburdened?

Thanks, that's a great link, but I know how to separate the pups from the mother plant. I am just asking if banana plants can propagate before they themselves have fruited.

Yes They can pup at anytime the corm has enough energy. I purchased a TC Cali gold and it put off a pup when it was 2' tall. For maximum production generally limit each mat to 3 plants of different sizes. I would get rid of 2 pups and not let a third grow till it gets close to fruiting height.
