I do too! I only was able to capture them because i heard a strange noise.

I live in north central phoenix... temps usually dont go below 30 except for the few freak winters that we get. I suppose it could be 9b as well :-)

I've heard it said that birds are the most adaptable wildlife to urban life...

... does anyone know of a medium sized light brown bird with white and brown stripes on its tail and wings, a dark breastplate that is almost heart shaped and red on it's throat, almost to its cheeks? It was rustling around in my gravel today.

That is soooo cool...dying of envy!!! What time of night was it, was it early morning?

I especially love the last picture where you can see the owl's eyes directly! Super!

These guys come around quite a bit, i see them sometimes fly from tree to tree in the evenings.

I got these shots probably around 9ish at night. Thanks for lookin guys. Glad there are others who appreciate these little guys. I wasn't sure what kind of owl they are, but they remind me of pygmy owls. They make a faint little noise not like a traditional owl sound or screech

I took the second pic and edited in Picasa. He's a cute little guy.

I'm posting the first pic next, I don't know how to post more than one pic in each post.

Fantastic pics, azant! Thanks so much for sharing them with us, they're so cute, and definitely a gardener's friend. Thanks too for confirming the tree ID, lol. Great stuff! Happy gardening all!
