Traveling with a bulb

melaroma(6)May 30, 2010

My mom is here visiting for the weekend before heading out tomorrow to Massachusetts for a week then heading home to Puerto Rico. I gave her two huge bulbs of amaryllis to take home that had previously been in pots. I dug them up and washed the dirt off, setting them on a paper towel to dry. My questions are, what is the best way to prepare it for travel for a week? Also do we trim the roots on the bulbs? What do we place them in? Thanks.

I think she gives them back to you. She will probably have them taken away from her at the airport. I'm not 100% certain, but I don't think you can travel to Puerto Rico with live plants, fruits or vegetables. You should do a little internet research, but I'm afraid it will be a problem and the bulbs will hit a trashcan. That would really be a shame. On the other hand, I don't think seeds are any issue at all. If you have any seeds you can give her, I think she can go through Customs and Immigration with seeds with no problem.
