How bad is Pleioblastus viridistriatus?

winsorw(8)August 10, 2008

Does anybody have experience growing Pleioblastus viridistriatus? I understand that it's running/invasive but would like to know how bad it is. If I put it in the ground where the surroungding soil isn't so good/dry and hard (nothing grow there), would I be safe from having it run amok? Or should I just grow it in pot?

Thanks for any advice.

My experience with the small grass bamboos is that they are quite aggressive, including the various Pleioblastus species. I generally don't bother with bamboo barriers for my bigger bamboo, but it's a different story with the small ones. I can assure you that poor soil won't slow this one down very much.

Thanks again Kudzu9. I think I'll leave it in a pot:-)
